News from Unit:
On Friday 19th August TS Daring had its first official outside unit activity. 8 cadets, 6 staff and committee and 1 parent went Air Riffle Shooting at The Quarries Scout camp, Cosgrove.

All cadets and adults took part, with the cadets being a much better shot than the adults, who really need to get to Specsavers.
Many thanks again to Scout Leader Mike Judd for supervising our shoot.

On Tuesday 30th and Wednesday 31st August TS Daring went to Newport Pagnell’s Royal British Legion to prepare for this year’s RBL poppy Appeal.

This consisted of making 300 boxes then filling them with poppy appeal merchandise such as poppies, stickers, car badges, tax disc holders, ect. once the boxes had been prepared we then tackled the 300 collection tins which we had to remove the old stickers and replace them with new ones.

I would like to thank all the cadets, staff and committee along with a brother and a sister of two of our cadets whom even though they are not cadets came along to help.

Very well done to all of you on a job well done and im sure you are all looking forward to helping with the collection for the poppy appeal at the end of October.

Newport Pagnell Muster – 10th September 2011

The Newport Muster is a festival of walks to celebrate the historic town of Newport Pagnell – which was a parliamentary stronghold during the English Civil War.

There were four walks to choose from: 3, 6, 8 and 15 miles raising money for local charities.

TS Daring manned a checkpoint in Bury Field Common which was the busiest checkpoint as all walkers had to pass through it on their journey – staff and cadets were kept busy all day!

I would like to thank both staff and cadets for attending – you really did a great job.

Hunstanton Lifeboat Station Visit

Cadets and staff from TS Daring have recently taken part in local collection events on behalf of the RNLI together with the Milton Keynes RNLI branch members.

On Saturday 22nd October 2011, cadets joined members of the Milton Keynes branch of volunteers for the RNLI on their visit to Hunstanton for the naming ceremony and service of dedication of the lifeboat ‘Spirit of West Norfolk’ and the opening of the new lifeboat station.

The Spirit of West Norfolk, which was paid for in part by residents of Hunstanton who collected £136,000, is an Atlantic 85 class lifeboat which is a rigid inflatable in-shore lifeboat that can operate in conditions up to gale force 7. It provides a rapid search and rescue response to emergency situations that arise close to shore.

The Hunstanton lifeboat station also operates one of only four in-shore rescue hovercrafts.

After the service the lifeboat was taken out on a demonstration launch – which was a real treat to watch.

The RNLI staff made the cadets feel very welcome throughout the visit. Thank you to the committee and fundraisers from Milton Keynes for an unforgettable day.

Chairman

Newport Pagnell Remembrance Parade

TS Daring took part in their first remembrance Sunday parade.

The cadets were very smart and had lots of praise from the local people on how smart they had presented themselves, well done to A/C J. Vobe who took on the responsibility of the wreath laying and although very nervous did a brilliant job, “BZ young man”.

A massive well done and thank you to the cadets and staff who took part.
